The katal (kat) is the SI-unit of catalytic activity of enzymes. For example, it is used in biochemistry. Since 1999 it replaces the enzyme-unit U = 1 µmol / min (IUPAC). One katal is defined as the amount of enzyme that reacts (under standard conditions) with one mole of substrate per second.

Usage:
Type the known value of catalytic activity into the field with the corresponding unit.
After a mouse click on any free space of the window or on the
"calculate" button the calculation is performed.
If you also type the molar mass of the substrate in g/mole, a conversion of molar units
(amout of moles per unit time) to mass units (mass per unit time) is performed.
Vice versa, with a given molar mass you may convert from mass units to molar units.
Move the mouse over a unit or click on it to read its full name.
Type the "reset" button to reset the calculation.
Example: You want to convert 5 U (5 µmol/min) into katal.
Type the value "5" into the corresponding field.
After the next mouse click on any free space of the window or on the
"calculate" button you can read the result
(8.33·10-8 kat).
When you now also type the molar mass of the substrate into the corresponding field,
e.g.. 150 g/mol, you may read the values of the mass units after the next mouseclick (e.g. 750 µg/min).
